The World...

is just so fucked up. We have to deal with the racist ugliness of the utterly corrupt and criminal Trump in the United States, the Brits have to deal with the similarly disgusting Boris Johnson. The French working class has been in the streets for nearly a month, fighting against Macron and his trying to force working class people into working more for less, in the name of increasing the authority and power of business.. The Philippines has the violent lunatic Duterte; the Russians, the neo-Stalinist and corrupt Putin; the Italians are facing street mobilizations by a renascent fascist movement. The racism against black people in the United States continues unabated and now, we’ve just had another in a rapidly growing series of murderously violent attacks against Jews. To make matters even more grim, all of this shit is taking place against the backdrop of a planet that has been pushed to the very limit, that has passed the tipping point of environmental degradation in the name of ever-increasing profit for a handful of corporations and wealthy individuals, so that now we know the question isn’t stopping the catastrophe that is already upon us but whether we can limit it enough so that the world is still habitable and recognizable 50 years from now. I don’t know, somehow this shit makes me not feel particularly like posting my usual silliness. Someone, please tell me that I’m wrong.

Tumblrは所謂SNSではなく、厳密には、個々の「ブログ」をフォローし合っているコミュニティーで、最近になって、タンブラーにも、投稿に対する一言を書きこめる場所があることを知った。

わたしは拙い英文で、このように書きこんだ。

Very important post for me. Although you may not know Japanese politics is as same as French, China, and America, Just one thing difference is We never protest. Because it is our culture. "Never against upper people" why? Japanese think they are upper because they are correct. why poor people or weak people is miserable ? cos we were wrong. thats how we think. I am a Japan hater so I support your opinion.

英文としてまるでなってないが、大体このようなことを書いた。

「ジェフ、きみはトランプやジョンソン、フランスのマクロン、更には、フィリピンのドテルテ大統領のこと、プーチンのネオ・スターリニズムのことを述べているが、おそらくきみは日本のことを知らないのだろう。きみが挙げた国の政治とまるで差が無いことを。

ただ、一点だけ、重要な相違は、日本人は決して逆らわないということ。

何故かって？それが我々の「文化」だからだ。

上のものに逆らうな。何故なら、彼らは、「正しい」が故に今の地位に＝「上」にいるのだから。

貧しいもの、弱い者は、「何かが間違っていたから」今、惨めな人生を送っているのだ。

つまり、豊かさや、貧しさは、「正しさ」の、そして「誤り」の結果なのだ、と。

それが日本人の思考様式だ。

わたしは生憎日本人が大嫌いでね。きみの意見を支持するよ。」

母によると（新聞によると）何とフランスでは、いまだにゼネスト状態が続いているらしい。

このジェフのポストが何故かわたしを勇気づけてくれたことを付け加えておく。
